Who We Are & What We Do
We have an excellent, competent staff that has bonded together as we work side-by-side in ministry each day. We have a Session who cares and is willing to sacrifice time and energy to making this ministry work. The Board of Deacons work with the homebound, engaging in what we call the quiet ministry of attending to others so they will not be forgotten. Our committees meet regularly, overseeing programs such as Mother’s Morning Out, Peace Place, and Letter of the Week. These committees including Finance, Worship, Children-Youth-and Family, Adult Education, Mission, Personnel, Property, Stewardship as well as the PNC, are all actively serving and seeking to bring Christ’s ministry alive among us. Recently some of us met with the Principal of Longfellow Elementary School to explore a partnership of support for the teachers and students. Monthly faculty lunches, establishment of a teacher-supply fund for classroom needs, working with the school’s Angel Tree for family needs of the students at Christmas, and helping with school carnivals and functions are some ideas on the table to discuss. Our theme this year is “A Future and a Hope”. This comes from Jeremiah 29:11, his letter to a discouraged group of exiles in Babylon. No matter our situation in life, as we remain faithful to God there is always “A Future and a Hope”.

Parishioner Stories

Another joy has been introducing my new husband, Dwight Smith, to my church family. We were married March 11, 2018. I am so proud of my First Presbyterian Church heritage and all the members prior and present who serve or have served so faithfully with me for our Risen Lord.
